Commonplace Creative is a consulting service designed to bring creativity into schools and workplaces. I also work with individual authors to shape and proof working manuscripts and editorial ideas – bringing them from the page to life.

Expertise: Aside from working as a professional author, corporate and freelance writer, I have a Master of Philosophy in Creative Writing, First Class Honours in Creative Writing and Bachelor of Arts specialising in Creative Writing. I have also taught in tertiary-based settings with a focus on creative and professional writing and student participation. I have been awarded and shortlisted for many prestigious literary awards in Australia for my writing. You can find out more here.

Schools

I work with schools to create engaging and exciting workshops about the practice of writing and how students can apply creative skills to their academic and personal pursuits.

Authors

I work with authors to ready their projects for publication and submission. I work with a variety of genres including poetry, non-fiction, commercial fiction and literary fiction.

Suitability: For both traditionally published and self-published authors.

Events / Judging

I am available to participate in and moderate literary panels and events and judge literary competitions. I have chaired and been part of a number of Writers Festivals and library events across Australia and internationally.

School Sessions and Workshops 📚

Lifewriting 101

Duration: 90–120 mins

Duration: 60–90 mins Students explore autobiographical storytelling with a creative twist, focusing on everyday moments and bringing the ordinary to life on the page. This session encourages playful experimentation with form and structure, helping students craft memoir and non‑fiction in a safe, supportive environment.

Suitability: English Studies, Communications; adaptable for all ages.

Poetry 101

Duration: 90–120 mins

Students explore form, place, and instinctive creativity while crafting authentic poetry. They use autobiographical and linguistic techniques supported by guided prompts and exercises. Sessions encourage sharing, reflection, and constructive feedback.

Poetry Workshop

Writing 101

Duration: 60 mins

I provide students with an overview of a working writer’s career and how to get started from school age. We discuss the writer’s journey, skills and toolkits for industry experience and how to submit to youth-based publications. I have delivered this program at schools, community organisations and libraries..

Suitability: Adaptable for all ages.

1:1 Sessions

Duration: 90-120 mins

I work with your child to encourage their creativity and passion for writing. We work on readying work for competitions, publishing and assignments. My focus is on applying creative skills and thinking through a range of activities and prompts. This course can be catered to specific needs and goals and is adaptable for all ages.

Masterclasses

Duration: 90-120 mins

I run intensive masterclasses for gifted student writers who are looking to publish seriously. We work on four key modules towards publication: focussing on production, feedback, editing and submission.

Suitability: Suitable for older students.

Manuscript Assessments ✏️

I work with authors of all backgrounds on their projects and creative pursuits. My services rely on cultivating an intimate creative relationship where I connect with authors to deeply understand and engage with their craft. I provide ad hoc editing and assessment services, but can also engage with authors from the start of their writing journey until submission.

Overall Assessment

I provide high-level manuscript assessments and project support – bringing your manuscript from the page to life. We’ll have a 30 minute chat to discuss your aims for the book.

Structural Edits

I provide strategic overview of your project with detailed information about plot, characterisation and story logic.

Proof reading

I work through your manuscript with a fine-toothed comb, looking for any grammatical and punctuation mistakes or inconsistencies. Don’t worry about making any mistakes – typos happen and that’s what I’m here for!

Copy and line editing

I work with the syntax and logic of your collection – ensuring that your writing remains consistent and polished throughout the chapters.

Final Edit

I undertake a final edit of your manuscript to ensure that it is ready for publication / submission. I also provide a detailed report about your work with high-level feedback and advice.

Beta and Sensitivity Reading

I provide a high-level beta and sensitivity read of your manuscript to avoid any stereotyping and to ensure cultural safety. My expertise lies in depictions of Asian-diasporic characters and identity.
